This role is responsible for maintaining/troubleshooting GPS guided machine fleet and GPS jobsite rovers. This includes collecting field as-built data and creating 3D digital terrain models. The Machine Control Specialist will participate in drone program as a licensed pilot and project level work that requires the understanding of surveying principles, processes, equipment and software. This person will also train trades persons in using GPS field technologies for layout and provides technical support to all jobsites creating successful jobsite outcomes.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintaining GPS heavy equipment fleet.
  • Maintain GPS rovers and help evaluate needs at jobsites.
  • Works with Sitework Superintendent and Surveyors to coordinate GPS equipment allocation daily jobsite needs.
  • Proficiency with the latest Trimble Survey Data Collectors, Earthworks, Siteworks, GNSS, Digital Leveling and Conventional Robotic Total Stations.
  • Implement project quality control and quality assurance processes.
  • Work closely with Survey Manager and VDC department to ensure the field has the latest foundation models for site excavation.
  • Works with drone team as a pilot and provides local and GNSS GCP’s for drone surveys.
  • Uses Propeller software for site visualization, topographical data for quantity takeoff and cad design overlays.
  • Gathers site utility as-built locations and works with crews to insure as-builts are current on all projects.
  • Strong commitment to jobsite safety including knowledge of company safety standards.
  • Communicating effectively with all members of the RLG Team.
  • Assist Surveying Manager in finding new technology to implement into our daily workflow.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with owners, customers and sub-contractors.
  • Willing to work in extreme weather/environmental conditions at the work site, ability to navigate uneven terrain.

 

SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of CAD based survey computer programs including AutoCAD, Carlson Survey, Trimble WorksManager and Trimble Business Center
  • Able to manage multiple tasks and excellent follow up skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to maintain favorable public/customer relations.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Proven track record in the use and implementation of new technologies
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans.
  • Knowledge of safety best practices and procedures
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to teamwork and project management
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Proficient using Microsoft suite of programs (Word, Excel and Outlook)

 

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:                 

  • Bachelor’s Civil Engineering or equivalent combination of education in similar field and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of proven work experience in the construction industry.
  • Valid drivers’ license required
  • Part 107 Drone Pilots license preferred, but not required
